About Kav Hazinuk

Kav Hazinuk

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

Kav Hazinuk [Starting Line] identifies, trains, and connects talented youths and young adults from Israel’s socio-geographic periphery, who will serve as a pool for a value-driven, diverse, and groundbreaking future leadership. In a unique model, which includes participants’ 10-year membership in the program—from high school through higher education to the career stage—Kav Hazinuk is creating a network of change agents, who seek to challenge the patterns of thought and action that enhance Israel’s social disparities.

Sanabel سنابل — Kav Hazinuk in the Druze community

An innovative program and the first of its kind, the initiative of the Jewish Federation of Chicago, for Israel’s Druze community.

The 10-year training program cultivates leadership skills, values, and networking among youth and young adults aged 15-25, who are guided by trained mentors from the Druze community throughout the program’s duration.

The program is operated by ‘Kav Hazinuk’ and is supervised by a steering committee which was assembled and established by the Jewish Federation of Chicago. The committee consists of 11 trained women and men from the Druze community, who hold senior positions in a broad range of fields.

How We Operate

Kav Hazinuk operates in five regions: Upper Galilee and Golan, Western Galilee, Central region, Jerusalem, and the eastern Negev.
Spanning 10 years, the unique in-depth program accompanies over 500 15-25-year-olds.

Stage 1
10th grade to the end of high school

Initially, participants engage in expanding and reinforcing their personal and social identities and develop, through diverse experiences, leadership capabilities and a critical social awareness. Stage 1 consists of participation in weekly group meetings, field seminars, implementing projects and entrepreneurial action, as well as the group coordinator’s personal mentorship.

In their first year on the program, participants are exposed to innovative leadership models, to the power of interacting with the ‘other’, and experiment with the group space and laying personal boundaries. On their second year, they learn and experience the world of social entrepreneurship.

Through an advanced and unique impact accelerator, the participants initiate and implement projects in response to a social/community need they had identified, and which can alter their reality. During the third year, they build their social awareness and take a significant part in activism.

This stage also focuses on planning participant’s post-high school course of life and preparing them to the different frameworks awaiting them after graduation.

Stage 2
During their pre-military preparatory programs and military, national, or civic service, and the period of their academic studies, participants are assisted and guided as they develop, at the personal level and in areas of social impact. They continue to receive training to deepen social awareness, activism, impact, and leadership. Participants are personally mentored by socially active professionals, attend inspiring seminars and conferences, and integrate into Kav Hazinuk’s national network.

Stage 3
Higher education and early career development

The program continues to accompany its participants as they chart the course of their lives according to their individual aspirations. The program provides several tracks for personal-professional development, to maximize the tools acquired in the program and realize its values in real life – reducing gaps and pursuing the common good.

This stage operates in three main axes: Personal and professional development, community and networking, and impact accelerators.

At this stage, participants benefit from tailored mentoring; a national impact network of leading young people; a mentoring program with key figures of the social, economic, business, and political spheres; practical experience and learning through participation in relevant forums; and programming customized to participants’ individual position in life – a program for military personnel, a social impact accelerator program, a political training program, a program for questioning leadership, a community managers’ course, and more.

This is the participants’ chance to take on the role of catalysts for change within the professional environments they aim to pursue further.

The program invests extensive efforts in providing Stage 3 participants with a support network and contacts with liaisons in various fields, to ensure their success.
